Information Collection and Use

The Classics Network collects information from users in order to enable them to engage with the site's interactive features. The Classics Network is at all times the sole owner of the information collected on the site.  We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in any way.

Registration
In order to submit content to the site or take part in discussions and chats, a user may be required to complete the registration form.  During registration a user is required to give only their email address and to select a password. The user may decide whether or not to provide any additional information. This information is used to contact the user about the services on our site for which they have expressed interest, and to provide background information on the user's education to other users who view content they have submitted.

Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about the user. Cookies are used to enable users to automatically login to the site without having to provide a username and password every time. Users may decide not to use cookies and will still be able to use the site. Some of our business partners (for example, advertisers) use cookies on our site. However, we have no access to or control over these cookies.

Log Files
We use internet presence (IP) addresses for website statistics in order to gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.  IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

We will share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.

Sharing
As part of our submissions policy, users agree that any work they submit may be used on alternative media (for example, CD-ROM) and shared with partner sites in the future. We will only share the user's submitted work, name and email address and only with trusted partners. As our submissions policy outlines, we will
always ensure that the user is credited with authorship of the work he or she submitted.

Links
This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that the Classics Network is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites.  We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information.  This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this site.

Mailing Lists and Communication
A user may opt to subscribe to the the Classics Network Mailing List and/or specific humanities-interest related mailing lists. A user will be included on these mailing lists only if he or she explicitly indicates consent. Users may unsubscribe from mailing lists at any time by choosing login from the main menu.

Occasionally, important announcements about the website (for example, changes to policies) are sent to all registered users. Users may opt out of receiving these announcements by contacting us.

Prizes, Certificates and Surveys
The Classics Network regularly runs contests and offers printed certificates to certain users. We also occasionally run user surveys. In order to dispatch prizes, we may require that you provide some additional information. Participation is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information.  Information requested may include contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age level).  Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes.  Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site.

Tell-A-Friend
If a user elects to use our referral service for informing a friend about our site, we ask them for the friend’s email address. The Classics Network will automatically send the friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the site. The Classics Network stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email.

Security
This website takes every precaution to protect our users’ information. The Classics Network does not presently accept any sensitive information such as credit card details, so it does not use secure technology. If new services that accept sensitive information are reduced, we will make it a priority to introduce secure technologies immediately.

Correction/Updating Personal Information:
If a user’s personally identifiable information changes, or if a user no longer desires our service, we provide the user maintenance centre as a way of correcting, updating or removing that user’s personal data provided to us.  This can usually be done at the user login page or by
contacting us.

Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on the main page so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.  If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify users via email.  Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.

This universal frame began:
From harmony to harmony
Through all the compass of the notes it ran,
The diapason closing full in Man.
